Bikita Minerals, a subsidiary of Sinomine Resource Group since February 2022, is constructing a US$400 million lithium sulphate plant targeting 100,000 tonnes per annum at full ramp, which would make it the largest such facility in Africa. The project is phased. As at 7 July 2026 the company described preliminary and site works as underway, characterising the project as steel going into the ground, and Deputy General Manager Amanda Makausi stated the company was not waiting for the January 2027 deadline. Beneficiation capacity is therefore under construction and not in place. The commissioning date for the first phase is disputed in available reporting: one account dates it within 2026, another to the second quarter of 2027. Koussi has not resolved this conflict and records it rather than selecting between the two. The site-works stage described in July is difficult to reconcile with commissioning before the end of 2026, but this is an inference and not established. Contemporaneous reporting on 7 July 2026 stated that of Zimbabwe's seven major lithium producers only Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe had completed, commissioned and shipped from a lithium sulphate plant, with Bikita and Kamativi both under construction.
